Yale University and MIT propose membrane optimization method for recycling materials such as lithium and cobalt

Key minerals such as lithium and cobalt are important for batteries, electric vehicles and renewable energy systems.

To meet long-term demand for these materials, researchers are working to find sources other than mining, and membrane technology has shown great promise in extracting these materials from alternative sources.

These membranes have nanopores that can filter specific materials from water and other sources.
