Volvo Trucks North America launches heavy-duty engines that meet CARB 2024 comprehensive standards

According to foreign media reports, Volvo Trucks North America has announced the launch of an engine that meets the 2024 California Air Resources Board (CARB) comprehensive regulatory requirements for low nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emission standards.

According to the CARB comprehensive regulations, compared to current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, 2024-2026 heavy-duty highway engines will have a 75% reduction in NOx emissions and a 50% reduction in PM.

us) Johan Agebrand, director of product marketing at Volvo Trucks North America, said: “To help customers successfully cope with the complexity of the changing regulatory environment, Volvo has developed engines that meet the new requirements of CARB.

Volvo also provides information sessions to help customers stay up to date and make informed decisions about their business.

We continue to invest in new powertrain and vehicle technologies to support our sustainability plans and commitment to environmental stewardship.

Volvo Trucks also continues to maintain its leading position with Class 8 Volvo VNR electric trucks and is investing heavily in the development of other zero-emission and near-zero emission technologies.

“, Volvo Trucks ‘CARB 24-compatible engines feature advanced emission control systems and integrate a fully serviceable linear exhaust aftertreatment system (EATS).

Each component is designed to be individually repaired or replaced, including the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), diesel particulate filter (DPF), aftertreatment heater, and selective catalytic reduction (SCR).

This method minimizes waste and fully extends service life.

In addition, the engine also integrates a 48-volt alternator that can power a 48-volt battery that can power the heater at start-up and low load conditions.

, Currently, VNR and current VNL models can order this CARB24-compatible engine with a power rating of 455 HP and a torque of 1650 lb.ft., As a result of the Clean Truck Partnership agreement reached between CARB and truck manufacturers last year, starting in 2027, NOx emission standards in 50 states across the United States will be aligned with federal standards.

Volvo Trucks North America is committed to providing innovative transportation solutions that meet or exceed industry standards, providing customers with the best tools to succeed in an ever-growing market.
