According to foreign media reports, workers at Volkswagen’s Tennessee plant formally voted to join the United Auto Workers (UAW).
The union began to unionize Tesla, Volkswagen and other auto companies last year.
According to an announcement issued by UAW on April 19th, workers at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga (Chattanooga) plant in Tennessee had finished voting, with 2628 in favor and 985 against.
The results of the vote are now awaiting formal certification by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), after which VW will need to begin collective bargaining with UAW on workers’ pay and working conditions.
On April 19, Volkswagen said in a statement that it “thanks Chattanooga for voting at this event.

He also said the union planned to use the victory as a driving force to continue to organise work within the factories of other foreign carmakers.
“I think it will set off a chain reaction,” Fain said.
I think once we prove to the world that this is feasible, it will open the door for thousands of other workers to join and be fair in their work.
” The Volkswagen Chattanooga plant employs about 4300 people.
In May, workers at Mercedes-Benz’s Tuscaloosa plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, will also vote on whether to join the UAW.
The NLRB vote will be held from May 13 to 17.
Last November, UAW officially launched a union movement against 13 automakers with non-union factories in the United States, including Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.
