Volkswagen CEO recommends exemptions from tariffs for China car companies investing in Europe

According to foreign media reports, Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume said that the EU should consider adjusting its high import tariffs on electric vehicles made in China to leave room for China automakers to invest in Europe.

Currently, the EU’s proposed tariffs on pure electric vehicles made in China will cost China automakers billions of dollars to export their cars to the EU.

Oliver Blume suggested that China companies investing and creating jobs in Europe should receive preferential treatment, such as being able to exempt the EU from tariffs of up to 45% on electric vehicles made in China.

“Possible counter-tariffs by China are particularly dangerous for the German auto industry.

German automakers will face huge disadvantages and disadvantages in the China market.

This is also why we clearly oppose the EU’s imposition of new tariffs on China.

” Oliver Blume said.

, According to reports, 10 EU member states voted in support of the EU raising tariffs on electric vehicles to China, while 5 member states including Germany voted against it, and another 12 member states abstained.

The EU tariff vote is another blow to the German automobile industry.

Amid slowing demand and fierce competition, the German auto industry is facing profit warnings and rising balance sheet concerns.

Volkswagen has lowered its performance forecast for the second time this year and for the first time is considering closing German factories to cut costs.

, Volkswagen, BMW Group and Mercedes-Benz all oppose the EU’s imposition of high tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China because about a third of the three automakers ‘sales come from China.
