UPM develops new model for diffuse shadow effects in vehicle-mounted photovoltaic

According to foreign media reports, researchers at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) have developed a new model to simulate the impact of buildings and objects on direct and scattered solar irradiance in vehicle-mounted photovoltaic systems (VIPVs).

“The verification process confirmed that the results provided by the software are very consistent with the real situation, which means that all necessary inputs needed to accurately estimate solar resources can indeed be derived from LiDAR data alone, without the need for additional sky imaging or hardware.

According to Macias, one of the most challenging aspects is developing algorithms that can accurately estimate each irradiance component from LiDAR and solar position data.
