Tesla will deliver 50 more Semis to Pepsi

According to foreign media reports, Dan Priestly, senior manager of Tesla Semi, said at the ACT Expo Clean Traffic Conference on May 21 that Tesla would deliver another 50 Semi to PepsiCo Inc.

In addition, Priestly also said that Tesla plans to deliver Semi to more customers in 2026.

“We look forward to using our experience in electric vehicles and supporting infrastructure” to solve the problem of heavy truck transportation on a large scale.

Erik Neandross, the conference host and CEO of consulting firm GNA, said that although Semi has always been a “hot topic in the industry”, Tesla’s executives have been largely silent about the development of the technology.

Priestly stressed its “great respect” for people working in the transportation industry.

He even made a joke, “Tesla has a specialty, that is to turn the impossible into being late.

In the actual test of Semi performance last year, Pepsi team’s performance exceeded expectations.

Although the number of Semi put into use is small compared with competitors’ electric trucks, the average daily mileage of Semi exceeds that of other vehicles at the Run on Less event held by the North American Freight Transport efficiency Council (North American Council for Freight Efficiency).

For more than two weeks since September 11 last year, the trucking research group has tracked information on charging infrastructure, car ownership costs, truck performance, charge management and other indicators.

PepsiCo’s Semi traveled 1076 miles in one day and carried out three relatively short 750kW fast recharges, bringing the battery to about 47%, 89% and 52%, respectively.

PepsiCo said that 60 per cent of the total vehicle weight (including cargo) exceeded 70000 pounds during the 18-day mileage, which is close to the upper limit of 82000 pounds for zero-emission semitrailers.

The new Semi will operate outside PepsiCo’s manufacturing and distribution facilities in Fresno, Calif.

The vehicles will be able to be recharged using eight 750kW Tesla charging piles.

The site is also equipped with two Tesla Megapack battery energy storage systems.

PepsiCo also added 75 Ford E-Transit electric vans to its fleet.

Tesla Semi’s slow production growth has left it lagging far behind its competitors in the number of trucks delivered and the number of announced orders.

At the beginning of this year, Volvo trucks had about 370 VNR Class 8 electric trucks on the road in the United States, providing port distribution and regional route services to customers.

Daimler truck’s Freightliner eCascadia electric semitrailer tractor was also a success.

Statistics show that the company delivered more than 350 eCascadia vehicles last year.
