, In April, Musk said that Tesla’s humanoid robot called Optimus would be able to perform tasks in the factory by the end of this year and could go on sale as early as the end of 2025.
In addition to Tesla, Japan’s Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd. have also been developing humanoid robots for several years.
Companies are looking to robots to solve potential labor shortages and perform potentially dangerous or cumbersome repetitive tasks such as logistics, warehousing and manufacturing.
, Over the years, Musk has made multiple promises to Wall Street investors.
In 2019, Musk told investors that Tesla would operate a “self-driving taxi” network in 2020.
Last week, Musk hinted that the unveiling of self-driving taxis would take more time and said he requested “important design changes” to the front of the vehicle.
In September 2022, Tesla released the first-generation Optimus robot, known as the “Bumblebee.
” This year, Tesla released a video showing a second-generation bipedal robot folding T-shirts in the company’s factory.
Demand for Tesla’s electric vehicles has declined in recent months, which account for more than 80% of Tesla’s quarterly revenue, so Musk has shifted his focus to artificial intelligence, autonomous driving software, autonomous taxis and Optimus robots.
, Tesla will report second-quarter results on July 23, and Wall Street expects its profit margins to fall to their lowest level in more than five years, but people will also focus on Musk’s grand plans for self-driving taxis and artificial intelligence products.
On July 22, Tesla’s share price rose by about 1% in pre-market trading.
