Fast Technology reported on August 16 that recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defect Investigation concluded a four-year investigation into suspension failures of some Tesla vehicles.
It is reported that this problem is called a “bang wheel” by Tesla owners.
NHTSA investigation found that there have been hundreds of front suspension failure incidents involving Model S and Model X.
, Although Tesla has previously issued a notice requiring the replacement of faulty parts on some vehicles, NHTSA said that there are more vehicles equipped with problematic parts, so the scope of vehicles covered by the service should be expanded.
During the investigation, NHTSA identified a total of 426 reports of Model S or Model X suspension failures due to front tie rod failure, and the investigation identified the problem to two parts.
, Tesla had issued a recall notice in 2017, but NHTSA said the sub-group of vehicles covered by the notice (produced from January to May 2016) accounted for only 25% of the failures identified in the investigation.
, Therefore, NHTSA recommended that Tesla expand the scope of its service announcement to include any vehicle equipped with the two problematic front tie rod part numbers.
