Fast Technology reported on August 21 that Tesla’s new super factory project in Shanghai has made significant progress and recently released the planned final factory renderings.
, The plant will become Tesla’s first energy storage superfactory outside the United States, specializing in the production of Megapack, a battery pack used in utility-scale energy storage projects.
, .
Previously, the production of Megapack was handled by the Nevada Superfactory, and the factory in Las Rop, California was Tesla’s first factory to exclusively produce Megapack.
Although Tesla originally planned to start construction in the second half of 2023 and start production in the second quarter of 2024, due to some delays, the goal is now to start production in the first quarter of 2025.
, Grace Tao-Lin, vice president of Tesla China, shared the construction progress of the factory on Weibo, saying that about 45% had been completed and showed pictures of the construction progress.
Tesla plans to increase the capacity of the new plant to approximately 40GWh, which will almost double the company’s total fixed energy storage production capacity.
, last year, Tesla reached an agreement with Shanghai Lingang management to announce plans to replicate the super factory in China, and held a formal signing ceremony at the end of last year.
As construction accelerates, Tesla is expected to once again demonstrate its ability to quickly build and put into production.
