Tesla responds to rumors that “single-pedal mode is banned”

On June 3, Tesla responded to market rumors that its single-pedal model might be banned.

The company stated that this standard has not yet been officially released and implemented and will not affect existing products and functions.

, Tesla responds to rumors that "single-pedal mode is banned" , recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology publicly solicited opinions on a mandatory national standard “Technical Requirements and Experimental Methods for Passenger Car Brake Systems”, which involves changes in the application conditions of the energy recovery braking function of new energy vehicles.

The deadline for soliciting opinions is July 27, 2024.

In response, there are voices in the market that Tesla’s single pedal mode may be banned.

Paragraph f) of Tesla responds to rumors that "single-pedal mode is banned" ,Tesla responds to rumors that "single-pedal mode is banned" , 5.2.18 stipulates that for vehicles with Type A and both Type A and Type B electric regenerative braking systems, the braking effect achieved by releasing the accelerator pedal in forward gear shall not slow the vehicle to a stop.

Tesla responds to rumors that "single-pedal mode is banned" , Type A electric regenerative system does not belong to the electric regenerative braking system for service braking, that is, kinetic energy is recovered by releasing the accelerator pedal.

Type B electric regenerative system belongs to the electric regenerative braking system for service braking, that is, kinetic energy is recovered by depressing the brake pedal.

In layman’s terms, after the implementation of the new national standard, kinetic energy can still be recovered by loosening the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle will still slow down, but the vehicle must be stopped by applying a brake.

It will not stop without stepping on the brake.

The document points out that in recent years, with the gradual widespread application of Type A electric regenerative braking system technology, drivers have controlled the accelerator pedal for a long time to achieve braking and parking, which may lead to the development of corresponding driving habits and misuses such as accidental stepping occurs in emergency braking conditions.

In order to clarify the positioning of Type A electric regeneration as an auxiliary braking, this requirement is put forward based on sufficient industry research and discussion, aiming to guide drivers to develop good driving habits and ensure driving safety.

Taking into account the current status of industry technology and products, this clause provides a separate transition period.
