SiFive announces new high-performance RISC-V data center processors for high-intensity AI workloads

On August 14, SiFive, Inc.

, which represents the gold standard of RISC-V computing.

Announced the release of the new SiFive Performance P870murD data center processor to meet customers’ needs for highly parallel infrastructure workloads, including video streaming, storage and networking devices.

In combination with the products in the SiFive Intelligence family, data center architects can also build an extremely high-performance, energy-efficient computing subsystem for AI-driven applications.

Based on the successful experience of P870, P870MurD supports the open AMBA CHI protocol, giving customers more flexibility in expanding the number of clusters.

This scalability allows customers to minimize power consumption while improving performance.

By using the standard CHI bus, P870MurD enables SiFive customers to scale to 256cores while using industry-standard protocols such as Compute Express Link (CXL) and CHI chip-to-chip (C2C), thus achieving high core number of heterogeneous SoC and core configuration consistency.

The P870MurD processor can create an infrastructure SoC with higher computing density.

SiFive provides higher per watt performance metrics than competitors and is suitable for workloads that need to perform multiple computing tasks in parallel.

Therefore, SiFive’s P870murd has an advantage in terms of total cost of ownership, which is particularly important for the industry to seek to reduce the cost of AI model training.

In addition, the power consumption efficiency of the P870Musi D is also in line with the industry’s growing concern for sustainability.

SiFive brings a whole new modern approach to the AI era through a broad portfolio of RISC-V solutions.

The new P870 Musi D enhances our proven Performance architecture with unprecedented performance, flexibility and scalability.

” John Ronco, Senior Vice President of SiFive products, said, “SiFive’s complete solution, including software, IOMMU, interrupt controller and other non-core modules, plus our smart processors for specialized AI computing, enables SiFive customers to achieve the most efficient performance, power and price ratios on AI and data center workloads.

” Data center architects will increasingly focus on energy efficiency in the future.

this is a significant difference between RISC-V and why we expect the architecture to play an important role in the continued growth of high-performance data center processors.

” “We predict that more energy-efficient data center processors will account for more than 40 per cent of the market by 2030, due to the growth of open source software and open standard architecture,” said Edward Wilford, senior research director at Omdia.

SiFive is working closely with a number of ecosystem partners to further simplify the development of complete systems.

For example, Arteris, a leading partner of SiFive, provides simulation-ready reference designs based on X280 and P870 Murd processors as the first products of the verification platform.

By integrating SiFive’s RISC-V processors with Arteris’s Internet on Chip (NoC) IP, SiFive customers can accelerate development and bring products to market faster.

IP significantly simplifies the process of building complex multicore heterogeneous SoC with the lowest latency and high bandwidth to accommodate AI workloads.

Michal Siwinski, Chief Marketing Officer of Arteris, said: “We are pleased to continue to work with SiFive to enable the ecosystem to create high-performance, low-power RISC-V systems on time and on budget while reducing risk.

” SiFive also adds reliability, availability, and RAS features to P870 Murd.

These RAS features are designed to detect errors before problems occur and protect data integrity, helping to prevent downtime and ensure the overall reliability of the system.

In addition, the P870 IOMMU D includes distributed and scalable IO to accelerate the IO of virtualized devices, which is critical to address the latest functional security and security requirements.

The main features: ● provides a solution based on computing requirements and supports expansion to 256 cores ● is fully compatible with RVA23 configuration files, enabling system developers to take advantage of a wide range of operating systems, tool chains, and application software frameworks, thereby reducing time to market, project risk and development costs.

● supports RISC-V Sv57 extensions and enables 57-bit virtual address space support ● supports 4 CHI ports / clusters and wider links for multiple peripheral and storage ports ● integrates interrupt controllers that conform to the Advanced interrupt Architecture (AIA) standard, supporting message signal interrupts (MSI) and virtualization.

From a software perspective, the customers who created the data center platform forcefully combined open source software with first-party software Many basic open source software elements already exist in the RISC-V ecosystem, and this momentum is accelerating, thanks to the collaboration of communities such as the RISE project.

The P870MurD processor complies with the platform and profile standards defined by RISC-V International, enabling customers to use these software for design, saving time and costs, and improving the chances of project success.

To further speed up the development process, customers can take advantage of SiFive’s standard run control debugging capabilities, as well as debugging solutions supported by leading tool vendors.

To protect the design of the P870 Merry D, SiFive customers can also take advantage of the open WorldGuard model to simplify the process of creating a trusted execution environment (TEE).

The P870MurD processor is now available to major customers for sample testing and is expected to be officially released by the end of 2024.
