Scientists develop accelerometers made of composite materials for extreme conditions in applications such as automobiles

Demand for microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) that can adapt to harsh environments is growing, but silicon-based MEMS is difficult to operate under extreme conditions and limited performance at high temperatures.

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a promising solution that offers excellent thermal, electrical and mechanical properties for building durable MEMS.
