According to foreign media reports, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on April 12 that it was investigating a recall initiated by Ford.
Earlier, Ford recalled more than 42000 SUV vehicles because of possible fuel leaks and engine fires.
NHTSA said it was reviewing whether the recall remedies proposed by Ford for the 2022 to 2023 Bronco Sport and the 2022 Ford Escape SUV with 1.
5L engines were adequate and their safety consequences.
In announcing the recall plan, Ford said the vehicle’s injector could crack and leak fuel, which could lead to a fire under the hood.
Ford recommends updating the engine control software and installing drains.
But the company does not recommend replacing ruptured injectors.
Ford said on April 12th that it was working with NHTSA to support the agency’s investigation.
Ford said earlier this week that before the recall, it had received five reports of fires under the hood of Richie and Bronco Sport vehicles, but Ford said it had received no reports of accidents or casualties related to the problem.
The software update will detect a drop in pressure in the fuel rail and send a “seek maintenance” message to the driver, disable high-pressure fuel pumps, reduce engine power output, and lower the temperature of potential sources of ignition.
NHTSA said that in 2022, Ford recalled nearly 522000 2020-2023 Ford sharp cars and 2021-2023 Bronco Sport models due to the same problem, and took the same remedial measures.
Ford told NHTSA at the end of 2022 that it had received 54 reports from North America that models 2020 to 2022 with 1.
5L engines had caught fire under the hood of the Richie and Bronco Sport, including two accidents in which four people were injured.
