According to foreign media reports, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on August 14 that it has concluded its preliminary assessment of front suspension system failures of 74,918 Tesla vehicles.
NHTSA’s Defect Investigation Office began investigating the issue in 2020, based on complaints alleging that the front suspension front link of the 2015 to 2017 Tesla Model S and the 2016 to 2017 Model X were faulty.
, The front link is a key component of the vehicle suspension system, and its failure may cause damage to other components.
However, NHTSA said that because there were no instances in testing that suggested that the component’s failure prevented the driver from controlling the vehicle, the agency closed the investigation and reported instances of failure.
, Photo source: Tesla, foreign media quoted Tesla documents and interviews with customers and former employees in December last year as saying that since 2016, tens of thousands of car owners have had premature failures in their suspensions or steering parts.
, Documents show that Tesla had long known that the vehicle’s suspension and steering components were faulty, but the company tried to blame the driver for the problem.
NHTSA said in a notice: “Among the 426 cases of front link failures, there was one minor car accident that resulted in no casualties.
Most failures occur when vehicles are parked in lanes or parking lots at speeds between 1 and 15 miles per hour.
” Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment on NHTSA’s conclusion of the investigation.
, NHTSA said the end of the evaluation does not mean that the vehicle does not have safety issues.
The agency’s records show that Tesla has conducted nine recalls in the United States for steering and suspension problems since 2018.
