Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a social media post on X that the company will launch its robotic taxi product on August 8.
The upcoming self-driving car is said to be based on Tesla’s next-generation automotive platform.
Reuters reported earlier on Friday that Tesla had cancelled plans to launch low-cost cars and was shifting more resources to trying to bring self-driving taxis to market.
Musk responded that Reuters was lying, but did not provide specifics.
Earlier, Musk has repeatedly said his long-term vision is to provide affordable electric vehicles to the masses, a low-cost model that is highly anticipated by the market and is expected to sell for around $25,000 and is expected to be the next hot car to drive Tesla’s growth.
Musk later said on X:”Tesla’s driverless taxi will be unveiled Aug. 8.” He appears to confirm some reports that Tesla’s next product launch will focus on self-driving taxis.
