Leapmotor (English: Leapmotor, Hong Kong Stock Exchange: 9863) is an electric vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, Mainland China.
In December 2015, Dahua Co., Ltd., its controlling shareholder Fu Liquan, director Zhu Jiangming and others founded Zhejiang Leapao Technology Co., Ltd. It is worth mentioning that Fu Liquan and Zhu Jiangming are also co-founders of Dahua Technology. In March 2017, the Leapmotor brand was officially released.

In November 2017, Leapmotor released its first product, Leapmotor S01. In January 2019, Leapmoon S01 was officially launched. Leapmotor also announced that it would be manufactured by Changjiang Automobile; in June of the same year, Leapmoon S01 began batch delivery.

Since the OEM of Leapmotor is Changjiang Passenger Cars, its major shareholder Changjiang Motors entered bankruptcy liquidation in 2020, causing public concern about the production capacity of Leapmotor [6]. In December 2020, Leapmotor wholly acquired Fujian Xinfuda Automobile Industry Co., Ltd., thereby obtaining the latter’s new energy vehicle production qualification .

On September 29, 2022, Leapmotor was listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange [1].

On October 26, 2023, Stellantis Group announced that it would invest approximately 1.5 billion euros to acquire approximately 20% of the equity of Leapmotor and obtain 2 seats on the board of directors of Leapmotor. The two parties will also establish a joint venture company called “Leapmo International” to be responsible for the overseas export, sales and manufacturing business of Leapmotor. Strantis will appoint the company’s CEO. On the same day, Dahua Co., Ltd. announced that it would transfer all its shares in Leapmotor to Strantis, accounting for 7.88% of the total share capital of Leapmoto.

On February 19, 2024, Stellandis announced that it would deepen its cooperation agreement with China’s Leapmotor and introduce the production of related models in Turin, Italy. It is expected that the annual production capacity will reach 150,000 vehicles in 2025 or 2026 .
