According to media reports, MINI announced a recall of MINI COOPER SE models in the US market, involving a total of more than 100 vehicles.
, the reason for the recall is that there may be a leakage in the power battery shell of these vehicles, which in extreme cases can cause thermal runaway, that is, power battery fire.
Specifically, the recall covers a total of 128 MINI COOPER SE vehicles manufactured between June 12, 2020 and November 30, 2022.
The problem is that during the assembly of the battery shell, a substandard sealant may be used between the upper and lower half of the shell, resulting in battery leakage.
There have been a number of related accidents before.
, in October 2020, a MINI COOPER SE overheated out of control due to a fire in the power battery in the United States, and in January this year, another vehicle of the same model encountered a similar problem.
After investigation, officials confirmed that these thermal runaway accidents were caused by short circuit failure caused by water leakage in the power battery system.
At present, MINI has notified dealers to carry out the recall on April 29th and will notify relevant car owners by ordinary mail from June 21st.
The dealer will inspect the power battery of the recalled vehicle and replace the power battery for the owner free of charge if a leak is found.
MINI estimates that about 10 per cent of recalled vehicles may have this problem.
