Car sales in the European market, including the EU, EFTA countries and the UK, rose 0.
4 per cent year-on-year in July, according to preliminary data from Dataforce, a market research firm.
Overall, the European sales growth of 35 brands outpaced the overall increase of the market, while the sales of 34 brands declined.
Among them, eight brands, including Omoda, Geely, Xiaopeng, Polar Krypton, Lantu, Lutes and Red Flag, achieved triple-digit or higher growth.
Last month, sales of the BMW brand in Europe rose nearly 13% year-on-year to 63622 vehicles, rising to third place from fifth in the same period last year, surpassing Audi and Skoda.
Among them, sales of BMW’s pure electric iX1 high-end compact SUV model surged 30% year-on-year to 4453, while sales of medium-sized luxury car i4 rose 17% year-on-year to 3991.
Thanks to strong demand from the SUV product line, Mercedes-Benz’s sales rose nearly 12% year-on-year to 59573 vehicles, rising to fifth place from sixth in the same period last year, surpassing Audi.
Of this total, sales of GLC models rose 46 per cent year-on-year to 9026 vehicles, ranking second in their market segment, while GLA crossover sales rose 20 per cent to 5306 vehicles, ranking third in their market segment.
Another brand that saw a rise in sales was Volvo.
The brand’s European sales rose 41.
6 per cent to 30228 vehicles in July, rising to 14th place from 18th in the same period last year, surpassing Fiat and Nissan.
The EX30, the brand’s small all-electric SUV model, is the main driver of growth, with sales of 7306 vehicles last month.
By contrast, sales of Audi, Renault and Tesla declined.

5 per cent in July from a year earlier to 59289 vehicles, falling to sixth place from third in July last year, and an important reason for the decline was a 21 per cent year-on-year decline in sales of the compact model A3.
Renault fell to ninth place from seventh in July 2023 as sales fell 8.
3 per cent to 48598 vehicles.
Of this total, monthly sales of Megane models plunged 74 per cent from a year earlier, while sales of pure electric Megane E-Tech also fell 31 per cent.
Tesla’s sales fell 16% from the same period last year to 15298 vehicles, falling to 22nd place from 20th in July 2023.
Last month, sales of Model Y and Model 3 fell 16 per cent and 15 per cent respectively from a year earlier.
In July, MG and BYD brands from China ranked among the top 20 and 30 respectively in Europe.
BYD’s sales ranking in Europe jumped to 34th in June from 40th in June 2023.
Last month, BYD achieved another big improvement in the ranking, rising to 30th place from 48th in the same period last year.
The MG brand of SAIC remains the best-selling Chinese brand in Europe, with sales rising 16% year-on-year to 20492 vehicles last month, rising to 19th from 21st in July last year.
Among them, the highest-selling model is the ZS, with monthly sales of 8310 vehicles, an increase of 23% over the same period last year.
In the first seven months of this year, ZS sales rose 45 per cent year-on-year to 63342 vehicles, ranking eighth in the small SUV market.
In terms of models, sales of 8 of the top 10 best-selling models in Europe increased year-on-year in July.
Among them, the Dacia Sandero is not only the best-selling model in Europe in July, but also the highest cumulative sales from January to July.
The model has become the monthly top seller for the fifth time in the first seven months of this year.
It is worth noting that Tesla Model Y sales fell out of the top 20 and ranked 24th, while Tesla Model 3 ranked 70th.
