As a basic material in the contemporary world, polymers such as polypropylene exist in various fields from computers to automobiles.
Because of their ubiquity, materials scientists need to accurately understand how each newly developed polymer behaves under different preparation conditions.
According to foreign media reports, a new study published in the journal “Science and Technology of Advanced Materials” mentioned that researchers can now use machine learning to determine the expected properties of new polymers.
(Source: Advanced Materials Science and Technology) Predicting the mechanical properties of new polymers, such as tensile strength or flexibility, often requires destructive and expensive physical testing of them.
However, a research team led by Japan’s National Institute for Materials Science has shown that machine learning can predict the material properties of polymers.
