Italy hopes to repair tensions with Stellantis

According to foreign media reports, Italian Industry Minister Adolfo Urso announced an agreement on December 10 to prevent Stellantis ‘suppliers from laying off 249 jobs, and hopes this breakthrough will help repair the country’s strained relationship with Stellantis.

, In the past few months, Stellantis has been at odds with the Italian government, with Italian politicians accusing Stellantis and former CEO Carlos Tavares of neglecting historic Italian production bases and shifting production to other countries.

But after Don Weishi suddenly announced his resignation, a Stellantis executive said on December 9 that he would present a clear plan to revitalize Italy’s car production at the Italian automobile industry conference that Urso is scheduled to host in Rome on December 17.

, Due to the extension of the contract, 152 jobs originally planned to be abolished by the end of this year by Trasnova’s two subcontractors, Logitech and Tecnoservice, were also preserved.

“This deal is a concrete expression of responsibility at a critical moment in the automotive industry,” Urso said.

He added: “I hope this will also mark the beginning of a new and fruitful path of cooperation between Italy and Stellantis.

“, Stellantis said in a separate statement that the company has taken responsible actions and will continue to work hard to protect Italian jobs while addressing the challenges of electrification transformation.

, Jean-Philippe Imparato, chief operating officer of Stellantis Enlarged Europe, reiterated Stellantis ‘commitment not to close any Italian plants and highlighted the company’s plans to launch a hybrid version of the Fiat 500 by the end of 2025.

Currently, the Fiat 500 only has an all-electric version, and the hybrid version was launched to boost sales of this model.

Imparato said,”What I can tell you is that we will not give up Mirafiore, we will not give up Turin.

Stellantis will not give up on Italy, never, and we will make it clear to you next week.
