Honda’s first American-made electric car will share production lines with traditional fuel-fired vehicles

According to Bloomberg, Japanese automaker Honda plans to start producing electric cars at a factory in Ohio next year.

This is Honda’s first electric car in the United States, which will share the production line with traditional fuel-fueled vehicles.

Honda, April 12, Honda said that the electric car to be produced in Ohio next year is a medium and large car, which has not yet been named, and sharing the same production line with one or more gasoline models is expected to improve efficiency and meet market demand at the same time.

At present, the growth rate of electric vehicle penetration in new car sales in the United States has slowed, forcing some carmakers to cut production and delay the launch of new electric models.

Bob Nelson, executive vice president of Honda USA, pointed out that sharing the production line does not represent a change in plans, but it will enable the company to cope with changes in consumer preferences.

“We can adjust production according to the short-term demand of the market, but the development rate of our electric vehicles is still in line with our previous plans.

” Nelson said Honda aims to produce as many as hundreds of electric cars a day at its plant in Marysville, Ohio.

The company expects the plant’s overall production to be in line with the current production of about 950 vehicles a day.

Currently, Honda’s Marisville plant produces three medium-sized cars: the Honda Accord, the Acura Integra and the TLX.

In 2025, production of Accord models will be transferred to the Honda plant in Greensburg, Indiana, to free up capacity for new electric vehicles.

Last year, Honda announced that it would launch two electric cars for the US market, the Honda Prologue and the Acura ZDX, both of which were jointly developed with General Motors.

Nelson points out that the Prologue is produced at the General Motors plant in Ramos Arizpe, Ramos, Mexico.

Honda had previously encountered difficulties in entering the US electric car market.

From the late 1990s to 2020, the company launched three different Japanese-made electric cars, but the last three models all withdrew from the US market.
