Former Ford Design Vice President Luo Weiji joined BAIC as Global Design VP and Chief Design Officer

On the evening of October 10, BAIC officially announced that Luo Weiji officially joined the BAIC design team in October and served as the global design VP and chief design officer of BAIC Group.

It is reported that Luo Weiji was born in China Hong Kong on December 26, 1964 and graduated from the Department of Industrial Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1984.

Graduated from the Royal College of Art in London in 1987 with a master’s degree in automotive design.

, In 1987, Luo Weiji joined the British Lotus Motor Company and began his career as a car designer.

At the company, he designed the distinctive Carlton and participated in the design of other famous cars, such as the Isuzu 4200R concept car.

, In 1990, he joined Audi in Germany and worked on advanced design projects.

He was involved in the design of the Audi AVUS Quattro concept car, which perfectly captured the vision of the Audi brand and influenced the design of many cars of that era.

, Later, he was hired by Mercedes-Benz to join the company’s newly established advanced design studio in Japan, and devoted himself to the design of the Maybach concept car F200 Imagination.

With the internal concept car, he had a significant impact on the design of the W221S-class sedan.

Since then, Luo Weiji has served as General Motors ‘senior design director in Europe.

During this period, he was fully responsible for Saab, Opel and Vauxhall projects, and in particular led the development of Saab’s Aero-X concept car.

While in charge of Saab, he worked in Sweden as Saab Design Director.

, 2010-2021 In 1999, he served as Renault’s vice president of automotive design, during which time he led the design team and played an important role in Renault’s “Cycle of Life” design strategy.

This design concept is an important spirit of Renault’s global product design system.

Representative models include Renault Captur and Dacia Duster 2.

, In 2021, Moray Callum, Ford Motor’s vice president of global design, will retire and Luo Weiji will take over.

Then in May this year, Luo Weiji announced that he would leave Ford.
