According to foreign media reports, Ford Motor Company has applied for a patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a component theft detection system that may be used in future Ford vehicles.
The patent was filed on March 10, 2023 and published on September 12, 2024.
The serial number is 0300444.
, In recent years, theft cases have not been limited to the theft of complete vehicles.
Thieves have also frequently targeted expensive parts of vehicles, because such crimes seem easier to succeed and escape legal prosecution.
As a result, many Ford owners have become victims of theft of items such as tailgates, wheels and catalytic converters.
To solve this problem, Ford has applied for a series of patents, such as a random vehicle movement system to confuse thieves, as well as an active wheel theft prevention system and a wheel theft detection system.
Now, the newly filed patent aims to prevent the theft of catalytic converters from future Ford cars by using a variety of ultra-wideband (UWB) sensors that can detect potential threats nearby.
These sensors can monitor devices (such as mobile phones) and determine how far those devices are from the vehicle, and whether or when they invade specific areas (such as the vehicle chassis).
