Ford and Mazda issue a “do not drive warning” to some car owners in the United States

According to foreign media reports, Ford Motor and Mazda have issued a “Do Not Drive Warning” in the United States to owners of certain vehicles still affected by Takata airbag and inflator problems, saying these problems may cause serious or fatal injuries.

, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has warned that Takata’s airbag inflators could explode in an impacted vehicle, causing sharp metal fragments to splash inside the vehicle and hit the driver or passenger, potentially causing fatal injuries.

Ford has urged drivers of affected vehicles to contact dealers immediately for repairs.

The recall includes specific models such as Ranger trucks, Mustang and GT sports cars, Fusion sedans and some SUVs, including the company’s popular Edge.

Ford said approximately 765,600 airbag inflators in its vehicles are still affected by the problem globally, including approximately 374,300 airbag inflators in the United States.

In July this year, BMW also recalled about 394,000 vehicles in the United States due to the same problem.

Since 2009, vehicles equipped with Takata airbags by major automakers have killed more than 30 people and injured hundreds of others worldwide, including at least 26 deaths in the United States.

In the past decade, more than 100 million vehicles equipped with Takata airbag inflators have been recalled worldwide.

Takata was once the world’s leading airbag supplier, but filed for bankruptcy in 2017 after the scandal.
