According to foreign media reports, Fiat, a car brand owned by the Stellantis Group, will recall 17,418 vehicles in the United States because a software error may cause the airbag to deploy with excessive force during a collision, increasing the risk of serious neck injury to the people inside the vehicle.
Fiat’s filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that the recall will affect all 2017 to 2020 Fiat 124 Spider models.
, The root cause of the problem is that dual-stage airbags may be deployed instead of single-stage airbags in frontal impacts at speeds as low as 16 mph (about 26 kilometers per hour), which violates U.S. federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Mazda and Fiat collaborated to produce the Mazda MX-5 Miata and the Fiat 124 Spider, both cars sharing the same platform and assembled at the same factory in Hiroshima, Japan.
, The recall will address a design flaw in the accelerometer voltage specification set incorrectly.
Documents released by NHTSA show that Fiat U.S. The airbag control module will be reprogrammed on behalf of Mazda.
NHTSA said dealers will upgrade the airbag control module software for vehicles free of charge.
, A spokesperson for Stellantis said that as of now, the company has received no reports of casualties related to the issue.
Dealers will be notified in September this year, and car owners will be notified in November this year.
