Dutch Prime Minister: ASML’s interests will be taken into account when deciding on export restrictions to China

According to foreign media reports, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said last week that the Dutch government will consider the economic interests of ASML when deciding whether to further tighten regulations on exporting ASML computer chip manufacturing equipment to China.

Responding to questions about possible further restrictions on ASML exports to China, Schoof said: “We are conducting consultations, good consultations, and also paying special attention to the economic interests of ASML.

These benefits need to be weighed against other risks, and economic benefits are extremely important.

“, He also added,”ASML is an extremely important innovative industry for the Netherlands and should not be affected under any circumstances, as it will damage ASML’s global status.

” The Dutch government previously stipulated that ASML’s high-end products must obtain a license.

Recently, it has been reported that ASML’s service and spare parts supply licenses in China will expire at the end of this year, and the Dutch government may not renew some licenses by then.

It is reported that China’s business accounted for approximately 49% of ASML’s lithography system sales in the second quarter, exceeding 2 billion euros.

, ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet said ASML has been restricted from selling most of its advanced product line in China, and the company also faces restrictions in providing after-sales services to existing equipment at some factories in China due to U.S. and European regulations.

Roger Dassen, chief financial officer of ASML, revealed that about 20% of ASML’s current backlog of orders are sold to China.

Given the growing global demand for traditional chips, if these products are not sold to China, they may also be sold elsewhere.

After previous rounds of restrictions, Chinese chipmakers purchased mostly used ASML equipment that was not subject to export restrictions and used to make “traditional” chips important in global industrial manufacturing.
