Daimler Trucks: Half of European sales in 2030 will come from electric trucks

According to Reuters, on September 16, Daimler Trucks ‘incoming CEO Karin Rådström said that the company’s goal is to have half of its European sales coming from electric trucks by 2030.

Photo source: Daimler Trucks, reported that Rådström hopes that Daimler Trucks will sell 30,000 electric trucks in Europe in 2030, accounting for about half of the company’s total annual sales in Europe.

At the 2024 International Transport Expo in Hannover, Germany, Rådström said,”It’s very likely that we can do better this year.

” Just earlier this month, Rådström was just appointed CEO by the Supervisory Board of Daimler Trucks for a term of office from October 1 this year to October 31, 2029.

, According to Daimler Trucks ‘plans, it will begin production of its first all-electric heavy truck, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, in November this year.

Currently, 2000 orders have been received for this model.

Martin Daum, outgoing CEO of Daimler Trucks, also said he does not believe that the European truck market will slow down in the first half of 2025.

Previously, the COVID-19 epidemic caused shortages of chips and other parts, pushing up production costs, and Daimler Truck Group faced sluggish market demand.

The trucking industry also faces the challenge of reducing pollution, but logistics companies, the industry’s major customers, are reluctant to invest more money in electric trucks because the charging infrastructure is also immature.

Andreas Gorbach, chief technology officer of Daimler Trucks, believes that given the current rate of deployment of charging infrastructure in Europe, the EU’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 45% by 2030 seems difficult to achieve.

Gorbach suggested that goals for reducing carbon emissions should be combined with the speed of development of infrastructure networks and adjusted annually based on progress.
