According to Bloomberg, BYD’s planned factory in Mexico is expected to create about 10,000 jobs, which will bring its factory size to the same level as some of Mexico’s largest auto factories.
In March this year, BYD sent a delegation to Jalisco, Mexico, to consider building an electric vehicle factory there.
Roberto Arechederra, Minister of Economic Development of Jalisco, said at the time that BYD had conducted a very in-depth analysis of the number of educational centers and population near the potential site of the factory and took a fancy to the ecosystem and infrastructure of Jalisco.
, According to the latest report, Jorge Vallejo, BYD’s general manager in Mexico, said in an interview that BYD is in final negotiations on the location of the Mexican factory and is expected to be officially announced in the next few months.
BYD’s Mexico factory will employ more employees than some other automakers such as Audi’s factories in Mexico.
However, Jorge Vallejo did not elaborate on how many of the approximately 10,000 staff members would be employed directly by BYD and how many would be hired through contractors or suppliers.
Currently, Volkswagen’s Puebla factory is the largest in Mexico, employing 6,100 assembly line workers, 5,000 managers and thousands of parts assembly workers.
