According to Musk’s official announcement, Tesla will officially launch Robotaxi on August 8 this year, while ahead of Tesla, Baidu launched a Robotaxi with a price of just over 200000.
It is rumored that FSD and Robotaxi will soon enter China, which we look forward to and welcome.
However, a friendly reminder, take Wuhan, for example, Tesla wants to achieve our Baidu such a completely unmanned level, at least 3 years, more than 5 years, do not believe to try.
” At Apollo Day 2024 in Wuhan, Wang Yunpeng, vice president of Baidu Group and president of the intelligent driving group, gave Musk a piece of advice that what made him so confident was Apollo RT6 (Yichi 06), which is equipped with Baidu’s sixth generation intelligent system solution.
As the sixth-generation unmanned car of Baidu Apollo, the RT6 guidance price is 204600 yuan, and the comfort is “surpassing Mercedes-Benz S-Class, comparable to Maybach” in terms of PPT, independently developed by Baidu and produced by Jiangling OEM.
After the first delivery, it has been put into self-driving ride-hailing operation in Wuhan.
In fact, the RT6 is no stranger.
I had a pre-emptive experience at Baidu Apollo’s self-driving base in Yizhuang two years ago, but it was still a concept car at that time.
The appearance of this RT6, which was mass-produced two years later, doesn’t seem to have changed much.
I specially compared the data of the concept car two years ago with that of today’s mass-production car.
The length, width and height of the concept car are 4760mm*1870mm*1650mm, the wheelbase is 2830mm, and the length, width and height of the mass production car is 4765max 1885max 1715mm, and the wheelbase remains the same.
, above: RT6 concept car: RT6 production car, the change in size is not too big, the overall shape is also basically restore the design of the concept car, there is a kind of “baby bus” feeling.
The car still maintains a four-seat layout, with steering wheel and no steering wheel modes.
, above: RT6 concept car: RT6 production car, two years ago I experienced the concept car interior is a steering wheel version, the main seat can be directly transformed into a vending machine, now the production car is not so advanced design, but the function is still more avant-garde than the ordinary smart electric car.
For example, the vehicle can realize the remote monitoring of the whole process, including automatic preparation, risk early warning, automatic OTA, remote control window and so on.
If the passengers in the car suddenly feel unwell during the operation, the SOS service can respond remotely to help the vehicle park safely while dialing 120 to take the passengers to medical treatment.
As an all-electric car, the RT6 is equipped with BYD Freddy’s motor and Honeycomb Energy’s lithium iron phosphate battery pack, which supports power change and can be changed automatically in unmanned mode.
And the kernel of RT6 has reached the next Level because it implements the landing of the large model.
At the event, Baidu Apollo released the world’s first large model Apollo ADFM that supports L4 self-driving.
In addition to the L4 self-driving RT6, Baidu Apollo ADFM model also landed in the L2 + intelligent driving field.
As we all know, apart from Tesla, the most active player in the field of intelligent driving is Baidu Apollo.
Prior to this, they launched the pure visual city pilot driving assist product ANP3.
0, which was mass-produced and landed on Ji Yue 01.
Now, with Baidu Apollo ADFM enabling, ANP3.
0 will be upgraded to ASD (Apollo Self-Driving, corresponding to Tesla’s FSD), and will be mass-produced and launched in the full range of Ji Yue models.
Based on the large model of autopilot, Baidu Apollo will only take half a year to complete the preparation of the global fully autopilot travel service in a new city, and the verification time will continue to be shortened.
Where there is a Baidu map in the future, it will be possible to realize autopilot.
Baidu launched its self-driving car project 11 years ago, officially launched a self-driving car in the second half of 2015, and tested it on the highway on Beijing’s Fifth Ring Road.
In March 2017, Baidu officially established the Intelligent driving Enterprise Group (IDG), and Baidu Apollo was launched a month later.
At the Baidu AI developer conference in July, Li Yanhong went to the meeting in an unmanned car and got a ticket issued by the Beijing traffic police because, according to the regulations at that time, the unmanned car was still on the road without a license.
In 2018, Beijing issued the first batch of self-driving road test licenses, Baidu Apollo directly won five, and then the unmanned car was finally able to take up the post with a license.
Baidu Apollo has launched six generations of unmanned cars so far.
The second generation of Chery, BYD and the third generation of Lincoln are still modified cars, and the fourth generation of Red Flag to the fifth generation of polar fox, Ian and Weimar have all adopted the pre-loading production mode.
Now that it has evolved into the sixth generation, the “flowerpot” on top of RT6 is getting smaller and smaller, and the price is getting lower and lower.
The Apollo Moon cost of the fourth-generation Baidu and polar fox cooperation is also as high as 480000.
When the RT6 concept car was unveiled two years ago, the cost was said to have dropped to 250000.
By the time RT6 was officially delivered, the vehicle cost had been reduced by 60%, to a level of just over 200000.
According to Baidu Apollo, the cost of each generation of unmanned cars will be halved and the capacity of unmanned cars will be increased tenfold.
By contrast, the cost of Waymo’s unmanned bikes in service is still in the millions.
The reduction in bicycle costs is only half the task for Robotaxi because of the huge operating costs.
Baidu’s own turnip run, because the operation scale is still relatively small in early 2023, each unmanned car on the road is losing a lot of money.
However, official figures show that radish fast running’s revenue has increased nine-fold and its loss has been halved.
It is expected to break even in Wuhan by the end of this year and enter a full profit period in 2025.
Whether RT6 can help Baidu Apollo to make a commercial profit remains to be seen.
If Tesla’s Robotaxi can really enter the Chinese market, the competition in the field of unmanned vehicles will certainly be more fierce.
