Multiple media reports say Apple plans to lay off more than 600 jobs in Silicon Valley.
It was Apple’s first major layoffs since it was revealed that it had stopped its car-making program.
According to Apple’s announcement to California, 614 employees were notified of the layoffs on March 28, effective May 27.
In February, Apple canceled its years-long plan to develop self-driving electric vehicles.
Media reports say some of the project’s employees will be transferred to other departments, while others may be laid off.
Although the announcement filed with California did not specifically name the car project, the layoffs will affect employees in eight Santa Clara, Calif.
offices, although Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, Calif.
, will not be affected.
