Recently, media reported that China may invest about 6 billion yuan in all-solid-state battery research and development, including Ningde Times, BYD, FAW, SAIC, Weilan New Energy and Geely, which may receive government basic R & D support.
Several people familiar with the matter confirmed that the unprecedented project in the industry was led by relevant government ministries to encourage qualified enterprises to carry out research and development of technologies related to all-solid-state batteries.
It is reported that after strict screening, the project is finally divided into seven major projects, focusing polymers and sulfides and other different technical routes.
It is reported that solid-state batteries are valued by relevant enterprises at home and abroad because of their much better characteristics than traditional batteries, but they are intimidated by many enterprises because of the difficulty of research and development and long time span.
With the government taking the lead, the domestic research on solid-state batteries may start the acceleration mode.
The car companies are in a hurry, but the solid state is still a long way off, and recently, the discussion about solid-state batteries has once again been pushed to the best part.
The cause of the incident is still due to SAIC Zhiji’s L6, which claims to be equipped with solid-state batteries.
In order to help the new car Zhiji L6, Zhiji CEO Liu Tao announced on the social platform that the upcoming new car Zhiji L6 will be equipped with solid-state batteries for the first time.
This remark not only attracted the attention of the audience, but also was questioned by the industry.
Zhao Changjiang, general manager of Teng Teng sales Division, said that at this time, the promotion of semi-solid car batteries is playing word games.
In the face of doubt, Zhiji explained that there are no clear standards for semi-solid and quasi-solid-state batteries, but those who use solid-state electrolytes are definitely called solid-state batteries, which are products of different times from traditional batteries using liquid electrolytes.
However, Zhiji also said that SAIC’s all-solid-state battery will be delivered to mass production in 2026, and the prototype car test will be completed, with an energy density higher than that of 400Wh/kg.
At the same time, GAC Ean held a press conference to announce its phased breakthroughs in capacity, energy density, safety and manufacturing technology.
According to Li Jin, head of the battery research and development department of GAC EA, GAC GROUP realized that the energy density of all solid state batteries reached more than 400Wh/Kg by virtue of the third generation sponge silicon negative electrode technology and high surface capacity solid state cathode technology, which increased the volume energy density by more than 52% compared with the current mass-produced liquid lithium-ion battery, increased the mass energy density by more than 50%, and achieved a range of over 1000 kilometers.
The unit capacity of all-solid-state battery has exceeded 30Ah.
GAC Ian aims to complete the development of all-solid-state batteries by 2026, which will first be installed in the Haopin model.
In fact, in addition to the above car companies, BYD, Dongfeng, Xilai and other car companies, Ningde Times, Guoxuan Hi-Tech and other battery manufacturers are committed to the research and development of solid-state batteries.
Wu Kai, chief scientist of Ningde era, recently revealed that Ningde era has the opportunity to produce solid-state batteries in small quantities in 2027.
He also stressed that if 1-9 numbers are used to represent the maturity of all-solid-state batteries, the current maturity of Ningde era is at the level of 4, with a target of 2027 to 7-8.
In the Ningde era, solid-state batteries had many advantages, including high density and high safety.
It can be said that solid-state batteries can basically solve the difficulties faced by pure electricity.
However, the current solid-state battery technology is not mature enough, research and development is very difficult.
Battery experts from relevant car companies said in an interview with the media: “at present, both domestic car companies and battery suppliers have the mass production capacity of semi-solid state batteries, and it is expected to be able to get on board in large quantities in 2025.
However, all-solid-state batteries still remain in the breakthrough stage of positive and negative materials.
Although they have corresponding production capacity, mass production cannot be achieved in recent years due to unsolved problems in materials.
” Li Jin also said frankly: “it is very difficult to develop all-solid-state batteries, which can be called Mount Qomolangma in power batteries.
” Overseas enterprises are actively preparing for war and want to take advantage of solid-state bends to overtake.
In the past two years, overseas enterprises have frequently encountered obstacles in the development of new energy, while Chinese enterprises have caught up with latecomers.
This has caused anxiety among overseas governments and companies, so it is trying to use solid-state batteries to overtake Chinese companies at the corner.
At present, all countries are actively laying out the solid-state battery industry and introducing corresponding incentive policies.
In the United States, funded by the Department of Energy, startups lead research and development and have partnered with a number of car companies to achieve 500Wh/kg energy density in solid-state batteries by 2030.
Japan has built a joint R & D system for traditional car companies and battery companies, including Toyota, Panasonic, Nissan and other companies, to achieve the all-solid-state battery commercialization and energy density target 500Wh/kg by 2030.
The South Korean government provides a tax credit to support solid-state battery research and development, and superimposed power battery giants jointly promote.
Leading manufacturers include Samsung SDI, LG, SKI and other companies, with the goal of developing commercial technology for energy density 400Wh/kg by 2025-2028 and completing loading by 2030.
Germany has the strongest research and development efforts in Europe, and Mercedes-Benz and BMW are actively jointly developing solid-state batteries or developing their own solid-state batteries.
Mercedes-Benz plans to integrate solid-state battery technology into a number of Mercedes-Benz pure electric models after 2025 and achieve mass production in the next five years.
BMW plans to achieve a solid-state battery breakthrough in 2026 and then mass production.
Source: BMW, according to Guosheng Securities, the global demand for solid-state batteries will be 17.
3GWh in 2025.
By 2030, the global demand for solid-state batteries is expected to exceed the size of the 200GWh market, with a compound annual growth rate of 65.
8% from 2025 to 2030.
It can be predicted that the market prospect of solid-state battery is broad, but the competition is fierce.
If Chinese car companies want not to lag behind others, they must face up to the difficulties.
